Polo Forest, well known jungle located near village Abhapur, Vijaynagar, Gujarat (North Gujarat). It is dry mixed deciduous forest. It is placed at the foothills of Aravalli Range. Forest has river “Harnav” which is passing between the Jungle and make it green. It is spread over the area of 400 sq. km.

In 10th century, there was a town established by the Parihar Kings of Idar, around the Harnav River. It was came under Idar state in 15th Century, when Rathores of marwar conquered it. Town is located between two high and toll hills, which blocks sunlights for most of the days. Kalaliyo and Mamrechchi are name of the hills.

Polo” name came from word “Pol” a Marwari word. Meaning behind word “Pol” is one type of Marwari gate.

In Polo Forest there are many monuments and Ruins are still available. Old monuments was builds in 15th century. Hindu and Jain temple are still present there. Also Sharneswar Shiva Temple, SadevantSavlinganaDera, Surya Mamdir and LakhedanaDera are present in Polo Forest.

In this jungle there are more than 450 species of Medicinal plants, more than 275 different types of birds, 30 plus mammals and more than 32 types of reptiles. During winter forest attracts migratory birds and wetland birds during monsoon. The forest has also endangered Grey Hornbill and Brown headed Barbet birds.
